Road washed away by floods in Sikkim, 2400 tourists trapped, army took over and made it temporaryway

Gangtok /Since being hit by floods, the situation in Sikkim is continuously deteriorating. A road at Chungthang in North Sikkim was washed away due to floods on June 16. Around 2400 tourists were trapped there due to the road being washed away. Subsequently, Border Roads Organization (BRO) personnel along with the Army, under Project Swastik, tried to evacuate the tourists in the rain-damaged area overnight and constructed a temporary crossing for the tourists.
Around 300 tourists have been evacuated from the flood-damaged area till 12 noon today. From Guwahati, Army PRO Mahendra Rawat said efforts were on to restore road connectivity, while evacuation of tourists from the damaged areas would continue in the meantime.
