DRI seized gold worth five crores, four arrested

Raipur / The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has arrested four people on charges of gold smuggling and recovered more than eight kilograms of gold worth about Rs five crore from them.

DRI officials said that the Raipur unit of the directorate received information that a large quantity of gold was being smuggled in the Dnyaneshwari Express train passing through the city, following which the directorate's team apprehended two persons from the railway station and seized them. 3611.070 grams of gold was recovered from. The cost of this gold is two crore 21 lakh 71 thousand 970 rupees.

Officials said that when the smugglers were interrogated, it was learned that they were taking the gold to Mumbai. Thereafter, the Directorate team conducted a search operation in Mumbai and arrested the person who was about to receive the smuggled gold and one of his accomplices.

He told that the officers of the directorate have recovered about 4832 grams of gold from the premises of the accused, which is worth two crore 73 lakh, 50 thousand 523 rupees.
Officials said that in this case, the directorate's team has seized a total of 8433.76 grams of gold, which is worth Rs 4.95 crore.

He said that all the four arrested accused have been arrested under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962.
